Thing I Love #2: Cupcakes (and SF Foodwars’ Mini Cupcake Clash)

Set on a windy day at the Stable Cafe – a small, unassuming cafe between San Francisco’s Mission and Potrero Hill neighborhoods – the Mini Cupcake Clash was just what you’d imagine it to be:

A big-a** group of people geeking out about mini cupcakes.

Yes, things were cutesy to the extreme.

Yes, people made vegan cupcakes (it’s the Bay Area. C’mon)

Yes, there was one “husky” boy who returned to our booth over three times. Get ready for a lifetime of diabetes and sleep apnea, son.

Team Mustache’s booth was at once adorable and classy. Sweet and masculine. Beery and delicious.

Our aprons were supposed to be craftier, but we hit a wall after decorating 200+ mini cupcakes. We = me.

“Because everything is better with beer. And Mustaches.”

And now for some of the other attendees…

Peanut Butter Jelly time was definitely referencing this youtube sensation (if that video isn’t annoying as f*** I don’t know what is).

Mini Cupcake Clash 033

Does it get cuter than this? Only if  kittens shat them out.

Mini Cupcake Clash 038

Pears. Walnuts. Someone didn’t get the memo that cupcakes are supposed to be bad for you.

These guys, on the other hand… (I think bacon cupcakes were inevitable. Inevitable and delicious.)

Mini Cupcake Clash 036

Three-cheese cupcakes and a not-so-subtle sexual allusion. I approve.

Mini Cupcake Clash 042

These are cupcakes. Little cupcakes. Little cupcakes with swirled frosting and hearts.
